Essential Functions
Essential functions are statements that inform the applicant of information concerning the skills and knowledge required of the student to succeed in this Medical Technology program. To meet the essential functions, students must be able to perform analyses utilizing various instruments, monitor the quality of the sample, distinguish colors, stand or sit at a bench while performing procedures, demonstrate manual dexterity, demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend the written word, follow instructions, and draw meaningful and relevant conclusions regarding the written word. Students must demonstrate the ability to analyze a problem, apply critical thinking skills to solve a problem, and apply quality control and quality assurance practices to improve laboratory services. Students must demonstrate appropriate personal skills such as regular attendance at the appropriate time, cooperation, time management, and responsibility for their own work. Skills in communication, oral and written presentation, and a knowledge of computer systems and data interpretations are also utilized by the student during the training program.
