Since its inception, BMH and its employees have worked together to develop new services and to maintain the quality of health care for the residents of Muncie and East Central Indiana.
Laboratory Facilities
PA Labs' main lab is located at BMH, and is one of the most active and best equipped reference laboratories in the Midwest. The laboratory performs more then two million procedures per year.
Goals of the School
The care of the sick and the maintenance of good health are the greatest of all opportunities for service. The Program believes that Medical Technology is an auxiliary profession to clinical pathology and medicine, yet subject to the same ethical requirements. Medical Technology serves the community by assisting in the provision of necessary information for the proper patient care and by providing information for maintaining a condition of good health.
Education and training of others in the profession of Medical Technology is the privilege and duty of physicians, medical technologists, and other specialists. Technologists are schooled in clinical laboratory sciences by the efforts of dedicated instructors.
We believe in sincere, friendly, interdepartmental cooperation and care. The Medical Technology profession must emphasize a positive, constructive approach toward this goal. It is our desire to help the student realize his/her role on the total health care team.
Goals of the Program are numerous and varied. Stated simply, they include instructing the student how to perform all laboratory procedures offered by PA Labs and introducing the student to standard lab procedures. There is an unceasing determined effort to aim above the level of minimal requirements and standards set by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
An equally important goal is to promote the development of students with good attitudes toward service, intellectual integrity, good judgment, tact, patience, self-sacrifice, scientific objectivity, and cooperation.
The student is expected to demonstrate an understanding of the scientific principle upon which the technical methods are based by utilizing various testing methods.
The staff of the Medical Technology Program demonstrate to the students the need for a lively professional interest in the field of Medical Technology and the importance of continuing education to maintaining a high degree of proficiency and interest in the profession.
