School of Medical Technology Overview
Introduction:
Ball Memorial Hospital (BMH) has a "Tradition of Excellence."
BMH opened in 1929 and was a gift presented to the community by the five Ball Brothers who also founded the internationally known Ball Corporation.
BMH offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and also serves as the regional medical referral center for East Central Indiana. It is also fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the Indiana State Board of Health.
Since its inception, BMH and its employees have worked together to develop new services and to maintain the quality of health care for the residents of Muncie and East Central Indiana. more...
Standards:
Essential functions are statements that inform the applicant of information concerning the skills and knowledge required of the student to succeed in this Medical Technology program. To meet the essential functions, students must be able to perform analyses utilizing various instruments, monitor the quality of the sample, distinguish colors, stand or sit at a bench while performing procedures, demonstrate manual dexterity, demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend the written word, follow instructions, and draw meaningful and relevant conclusions regarding the written word. more...
Admission:
Academic records of all applicants for admission must meet the standards established by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Required prerequisites are graduation from an approved high school and satisfactory completion of three years (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours) in a college or university accredited by a recognized regional accrediting board.
Students must have the following college credits and be degree eligible upon completing the Medical Technology Program: Chemistry, 16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours, including organic and/or biochemistry; biologic sciences, 16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours, including immunology and microbiology; and mathematics, 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours.
Applicants who have not taken an organic or biochemistry course or a microbiology course within the past seven years must update their knowledge in these fields before attending this Medical Technology Program. more...
Finances:
Students attending Ball State University or Purdue University pay tuition to the academic institution for the senior year. A tuition reimbursement policy results in a portion of the tuition being reimbursed to the Medical Technology program. The tuition paid by other students entering the Ball Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology is $3000 for the 12-month program. more...
